Donald Trump has offered UFC president Dana White the job of White House press secretary, in a social media post that has set off a wave of speculation about whether the president is joking.
Trump announced the offer on Truth Social on Saturday, writing that White had been offered the job and asking him to take it. "I am pleased to announce that the Great Dana White, a violent Fighter and Warrior, has been offered the job of Press Secretary of the United States," the president wrote.
Trump also asked White to bring a group of fighters with him as assistants, naming Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harris. "We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left. Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!" he wrote.

White, 57, appeared to respond on Instagram with a picture of himself standing at the White House podium, captioned "On to the next chapter." He also shared a screenshot of Trump's post on his Instagram story.
It remains unclear whether Trump is serious. The president is known for sharing satirical posts on social media, and neither the White House nor the UFC has commented on whether the offer is genuine or whether White will accept it.
The press secretary job has been vacant since Katie Zacharia left the role on 16 October, after only five days in the job. Singer Nicki Minaj had also been mentioned as a possible choice, with several White House staff members backing her on social media, according to TMZ.
White is a longtime ally of Trump and the UFC has grown close to the White House this year, holding an event on the South Lawn in June. If White were to accept, he would be the third person to hold the press secretary job in Trump's second term.
