Nepal’s cricket community has joined a growing wave of support for communities affected by the devastating floods and landslides in Rasuwa and along the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli river corridor.
National team players Dipendra Singh Airee and Sandeep Lamichhane have used social media to urge people to remain alert and prioritise their safety as the disaster continues to affect multiple areas.
Airee made a particular appeal to people living around the Trishuli River, warning those close to the riverbanks to remain vigilant and move to safer locations if necessary. He also called for unity during the crisis.
Lamichhane separately urged people to exercise caution as authorities continued rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has also joined the safety campaign, asking the public to follow official instructions and avoid spreading unverified information during the emergency.
Support beyond Nepal
The response has extended beyond Nepal's cricketing community.
Former India international Yuvraj Singh expressed sympathy for families affected by the floods, particularly those still waiting for information about missing relatives.
Spanish football giants FC Barcelona also conveyed condolences to people affected by the disaster, including families who have lost loved ones and communities still dealing with the consequences of the flooding.
Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders and the Bangladesh Cricket Board have likewise expressed concern over the scale of the disaster.
Former Nepal cricket coach Monty Desai and Indian cricketer Priyank Panchal, who played for Karnali Yaks in the Nepal Premier League, have also shared messages of support.
The reactions have come as the impact of the disaster has spread well beyond the initial flood zone. The sudden surge in the Bhote Koshi area damaged roads, bridges, homes and other infrastructure, while communities downstream have faced continuing risks from flooding and landslides.
For Nepal's cricket community, the response has gone beyond condolences. Players have used their platforms to pass on safety warnings at a time when authorities are urging people near rivers and other vulnerable locations to remain cautious.
With rescue and recovery operations continuing, the messages from athletes, clubs and sporting organisations have added a wider international voice to the calls for safety and support.
