Public bodies had sent recommendations to the office about the firms. The office said it made the decision after it received those recommendations. The notice was issued after the decision was made.
Public procurement covers work and supplies bought by government offices and other public bodies. A blacklist is a formal step that bars a firm from that work for a set period. It is used when a firm is found to have been negligent in its work.
The office issued the notice today, a day after it made the decision. The firms will remain on the list for the full period set for each of them. Public bodies must follow the decision when they carry out procurement.
While the ban is in place, the firms will stay out of public procurement. They cannot bid for or take part in work for public bodies until the period ends.
For the firms, the decision means a break from public work. They will not be able to seek new contracts from public bodies until their time on the blacklist ends.
