The parliamentary hearing committee has begun the hearing process for the proposed judges of the Supreme Court, starting with discussions with the people who filed complaints against them.
The committee is discussing the complaint filed against Janak Pandey, one of four judges recommended for the Supreme Court last month. Thirteen complaints were filed against the four proposed Supreme Court judges after their names were put forward.
The complainants say a corruption case against Pandey's wife, Maya Puri Pande, and other members of his family is pending in the Supreme Court, and have asked the committee not to approve his appointment.

One complainant, Subas Dhakal, told the committee that Pandey's wife had misused public land, questioned Pandey's conduct and presented evidence in support of the complaint.
After Pandey, the committee plans to call the other proposed judges, Dr Ratna Bahadur Bagchand and Chandra Bahadur Saru, for hearings. The Judicial Council recommended Bagchand, Saru, Pandey and Gokarna Dangi for the Supreme Court last month.
The committee will hear the proposed judges before deciding whether to approve their appointments.
