Makwanpur Flood Girl Swept
The body of an 11-year-old girl who went missing after being swept away by floodwaters in Makwanpur district has been found three days after the incident.
Sumitra Blon, from Bastipur in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-19, was found dead on Friday morning, according to police.
Blon had gone missing on 2 Bhadra while returning home from Nirmal Secondary School in Bastipur. She was swept away by the Basudev River in Hetauda-19 as heavy rainfall caused the river to swell.
Police and local residents had been searching for her since she went missing.
Her body was found in the Rapti River at Lamitar in Manahari Rural Municipality-3, about 5km downstream from the location where she was swept away, Makwanpur police said.
Several people were affected by the flooding in the area. One person was rescued shortly after being swept away, while another girl was found dead on the same day.
The body of another girl was recovered the following day, on 3 Bhadra.
Authorities have continued search and rescue operations in areas affected by flooding as heavy monsoon rains have caused rivers and streams to rise across parts of Nepal.
