Two Earthquakes Strike Nepal’s Mugu District Within Hours

Two earthquakes struck Mugu district in north-western Nepal early on Wednesday, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre.

The first earthquake, measuring 4.5 magnitude, was recorded at 1:51am, with its epicentre in Mugu, the centre said.

A second earthquake, measuring 4.2 magnitude, followed at 4:28 am, also with its epicentre in Mugu.

Both tremors occurred within a few hours of each other.

No information about casualties or damage was immediately reported. Authorities have not indicated whether the earthquakes caused significant disruption in the district.

Nepal is located in a seismically active region, where earthquakes occur regularly because of the ongoing collision between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
