Chitwan Rhinos set Sudurpaschim Royals 130 to win at Kirtipur

Chitwan Rhinos scored 129 runs in their 20 overs against Sudurpaschim Royals at the Tribhuvan University ground in Kirtipur on Monday, leaving Sudurpaschim with a target of 130 runs to win the Nepal Premier League match.

Sudurpaschim won the toss and chose to bowl first, and Chitwan batted first after the match began at 5 pm Nepal time.

The total is modest by Twenty20 standards, and it leaves the second innings finely balanced, with Sudurpaschim needing steady batting rather than a fast start to chase it down.

For Chitwan, the innings keeps alive the chance of staying unbeaten, after the side entered the match with three points from two games, while Sudurpaschim, with one win and two losses from three games, will see the chase as a chance to improve its position.

A low total also puts pressure on Chitwan's bowlers to defend it, because a single strong partnership for Sudurpaschim could change the match quickly, while early wickets would tilt the contest back toward the side batting first.

Evening conditions at Kirtipur will matter in the chase, with the pitch and the outfield likely to shape how freely Sudurpaschim's batters can play their shots.

Chitwan will need disciplined bowling and sharp fielding to protect a total that offers little room for error, while Sudurpaschim will need its top order to give the chase a solid base before the closing overs.

With the target set, the match now turns on the second innings, and the side that holds its nerve in the key moments is likely to take the points from a contest that Chitwan had hoped to control with a larger first innings total.
