Sri Lanka Captain Charith Asalanka Joins Biratnagar Kings for NPL

Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka will play for Biratnagar Kings in the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

The franchise announced the signing on social media, adding one of Sri Lanka’s leading T20 players to its squad for the upcoming season.

The 29-year-old left-handed batter and right-arm off-spinner has played 77 T20 internationals for Sri Lanka, scoring 1,466 runs and taking seven wickets.

Asalanka also has extensive experience in franchise cricket. He has played in competitions including the Caribbean Premier League, Lanka Premier League, Pakistan Super League and International League T20. His 2026 record includes 385 runs in the Lanka Premier League, where he also took six wickets.

He made his international debut in 2021 and has since become a regular member of Sri Lanka’s limited-overs teams. He currently leads the side in T20 internationals.

Asalanka said he was excited to experience the NPL and play in front of Nepal’s cricket supporters.

He said he hoped to contribute his experience to Biratnagar Kings and create memorable moments for the team’s supporters while adapting to a new league and environment.

The third season of the NPL is scheduled to begin in Kathmandu on 26 October.

Biratnagar Kings had previously brought former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis into their squad for the second edition of the tournament.
