Police in Kanchanpur have arrested three men after a video of a woman passenger being harassed inside a night bus went viral on social media.
The arrested men are Samir Bista and Anil Nath Yogi of Bhimdatta Municipality-9 and Jeevan Bam of Bhimdatta Municipality-3, Tilkreni. District Police Office Kanchanpur spokesperson Deputy Superintendent Tek Bahadur Rawat said the three were taken into custody after the woman filed a complaint.
The woman, from Kanchanpur, told police she was harassed while travelling from Kathmandu to Mahendranagar on Tuesday night. The bus, a Mahakali Yatayat vehicle numbered SuPra 02-001 Kha 1565, was fitted with CCTV cameras, and footage of the incident later spread widely online.

Fellow passengers had already handed the three men to police in Butwal that night. Area Police Office Butwal chief Deputy Superintendent Nishant Shrivastava said his team took them into custody from Butwal Chowraha in the middle of the night after receiving word that a woman had been harassed on the bus.
The three spent a night in custody in Butwal before police sent them on to Mahendranagar, at the request of the women passengers. Kanchanpur police then took them back into custody on the basis of the complaint and have started an investigation.
Bus staff said the three boarded the bus in Kathmandu and began drinking alcohol from Dharke in Dhading, shouting and using abusive language aimed at women passengers. Other passengers repeatedly asked them to stop, but they carried on, and the atmosphere inside the bus turned tense.
Police said the investigation is under way and the three remain in custody.
