An 11-year-old boy from Nepal's Bara district was allegedly abducted and taken to India, where he was later found dead, police have said.

Rajesh Kumar Sah, from Musharwa in Bishrampur Rural Municipality-3, went missing at around 9am on 25 August, according to the District Police Office in Bara.

Police began searching for him after his disappearance was reported. Five days later, on 27 August, his body was found on the bank of the Singha River in Nuniya Dih Panchayat-1, in Motihari district of India's Bihar state.

CCTV and cross-border coordination

Police said their investigation, including an examination of CCTV footage, statements from local residents and coordination with Indian authorities, indicated that Rajesh had been abducted from Bishrampur and taken across the border before being killed.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old boy from the same Musharwa area in connection with the case.

According to Bara police spokesperson Deputy Superintendent of Police Min Bahadur Ghale, the suspect has been charged with abduction and murder.
