Players of FC Barcelona observed a minute’s silence before their latest home match in memory of those affected by the devastating floods near the Nepal-China border.
The tribute took place at Camp Nou ahead of Barcelona’s La Liga meeting with Athletic Club. The club later confirmed the gesture through its official social media account, saying the silence honoured both members of the Barcelona community who had died during the previous season and victims of the catastrophic flooding in the Nepal-China border region.

Barcelona make winning start
Barcelona followed the pre-match tribute with a 2-0 victory over Athletic Club, maintaining their perfect start to the new La Liga campaign.
Raphinha opened the scoring in the 37th minute before Fermín López added a second in the 82nd minute to secure three points for the home side.
The match also marked the Barcelona debut of Rodri, who joined the Catalan club from Manchester City following the 2026 World Cup. The midfielder came on in the 62nd minute.
Barcelona have now won both of their opening league matches of the season.
The minute’s silence, however, provided the most significant moment before kick-off, with the club using one of football's most recognisable gestures to acknowledge the victims and families affected by the disaster in Nepal.
