Nepal Bar Association has formed a six-member committee to collect facts and prepare a report on judges whose names have come up in the WhatsApp message case involving Inam Sapkota.
Former association president Chandeshwar Shrestha will lead the committee. Its members are senior advocates Purnaman Shakya, Usha Malla Pathak, Surendra Kumar Mahato and Chandra Prasad Kafle, along with advocate Baburam Aryal. Aryal will also serve as member secretary.
The committee has one month to complete its work. It must submit its report before the association's central executive council meets in Dhangadhi on 25 Mangsir.

The move follows wider scrutiny of the judiciary. The Supreme Court's full court has called for a probe into judges meeting a middleman, and questions about judicial conduct have become a major public issue.
The WhatsApp case has drawn attention because it touches on how judges interact with people outside the courts, an issue that goes to the independence and credibility of the judiciary.
The committee's report is expected to set out what its inquiry establishes about the judges named in the case. What the committee finds, and what action the association takes after receiving the report, will be watched closely, because the case has raised questions about public trust in the courts.
