Kelme Nepal Donates Rs1.5 Million to Support Rasuwa Flood Survivors

Sportswear brand Kelme Nepal has contributed Rs1,505,555 to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund to support people affected by the devastating floods in Rasuwa.

The company said the contribution is part of its relief response following the flooding that caused extensive loss of life and damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure in Rasuwa and neighbouring districts.

Kelme Nepal Managing Director Uttam Neupane said the company made the donation through the government relief fund so that the assistance could be used as part of the wider response to the disaster.

Kelme plans clothing banks in Rasuwa and Nuwakot

Alongside the cash contribution, Kelme Nepal has announced plans to establish clothing banks in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.

The company expects to provide new clothing worth between Rs10 million and Rs15 million through the programme. The clothing banks are expected to begin operating within 15 days.

Rather than distributing the clothes directly, Kelme says it will use official government records identifying people and families affected by the floods.

Those included on the official lists will be able to receive the clothing free of charge. The company said using verified government data is intended to ensure that assistance reaches genuine disaster-affected families.

The approach also allows the relief programme to complement, rather than duplicate, assistance being distributed through government agencies and other organisations.

Kelme showroom destroyed by flood

The disaster has also caused losses for Kelme itself.

The company’s showroom in Trishuli, Nuwakot, was completely damaged by the flood. Kelme is now preparing to expand or establish a new showroom in Bidur or the surrounding area.

The company said its response to the Rasuwa and Nuwakot disaster forms part of its broader social responsibility efforts during natural disasters and other difficult circumstances.

With the immediate rescue operation gradually giving way to recovery, businesses and private organisations have increasingly been directing assistance towards clothing, food, healthcare, shelter and other basic needs.

Kelme’s planned clothing banks are intended to provide one such form of practical support to families rebuilding their lives after the floods.
