Kathmandu Reds Fight Back to Beat Madhesh Warriors

Kathmandu Reds came from behind to beat Madhesh Warriors 3-2 in a closely contested match in the Nepal Volleyball League on Saturday.

Kathmandu lost the opening set but recovered to win 20-25, 26-24, 25-17, 22-25, 16-14 at the National Sports Council covered hall in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.

Ahmed Mustafa Khan of Kathmandu Reds was named player of the match and received a prize of Rs20,000.

The defeat was Madhesh Warriors’ second in a row. They lost their opening match to Sagarmatha Smashers, going down 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-21.

The league had earlier seen Karnali Shivraj beat Annapurna Spikers 3-1 on Friday. Karnali won 25-22, 19-25, 26-24, 25-22.

Six teams are competing in the inaugural men’s Nepal Volleyball League, organised by the Kedia Group with support from the Nepal Volleyball Association.

Each team will play the others once in the league stage. The team finishing top will qualify directly for the final, while the second- and third-placed teams will meet in a playoff for the other final spot.

The final will be played on 13 September (Bhadra 28), with the winners receiving Rs2 million. The total prize fund is Rs3.2 million.
