Vehicles Bound for Kathmandu via Narayangadh Halted as Rasuwa Flood Disrupts Prithvi Highway

Authorities in Chitwan have stopped all vehicles travelling toward Kathmandu through Narayangadh after flooding in the Bhote Koshi river system caused major disruptions along the Prithvi Highway in Dhading.

The Chitwan District Administration Office issued the restriction on Wednesday evening after road sections around Baireni and other parts of Dhading were blocked by the flood-related damage.

The suspension applies to all types of vehicles travelling from Narayangadh toward Kathmandu. Authorities said the restriction will remain in place until the road obstruction is cleared and another notice is issued.

According to the administration, the concerned agencies have indicated that restoring the disrupted sections will take some time.

Travel route affected by flood damage

The affected route is a major connection between Chitwan and Kathmandu through the Prithvi Highway.

Floodwaters moving downstream from the Bhote Koshi have affected the Trishuli river corridor and damaged roads and infrastructure in several locations.

The disruption in Dhading has made it unsafe for vehicles to continue toward Kathmandu from Narayangadh.

Authorities have therefore chosen to stop traffic rather than allow vehicles to enter sections where road conditions remain uncertain.

Earlier on Wednesday, traffic authorities had also halted vehicles leaving Kathmandu toward Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan because of the flood risk.

Authorities urge people to avoid river areas

The Chitwan administration has also warned people living near rivers to remain highly alert.

The flood has travelled downstream through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems, prompting authorities to issue warnings across several districts.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has urged residents along the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli and Narayani rivers in Rasuwa, Dhading, Nuwakot, Gorkha, Chitwan and Tanahun to move to safer locations and remain alert until further notice.

Officials have also advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel through flood-affected corridors.

More restrictions possible

The current vehicle restriction will remain in effect until the road obstruction is removed and authorities determine that the route is safe.

The government has separately called for restrictions on several major roads affected by the flood, including the Prithvi Highway, the Galchhi–Nuwakot–Rasuwa–Syabrubesi road and the Muglin–Narayangadh route.

The situation remains fluid as rescue teams continue operating in the flood-affected areas and authorities assess damage to roads and bridges.

Travellers are advised to check official traffic and district administration updates before attempting to travel through the affected routes.
