France Make It Two Wins
France continued their perfect start under new head coach Zinedine Zidane with a 1–0 victory over Belgium in the UEFA Nations League on Monday.
Michael Olise scored the decisive goal in the 88th minute at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, giving France their second win in as many matches since Zidane took charge.
The match appeared to be heading for a draw before Olise produced a late moment of quality. The Bayern Munich winger came off the bench and made a run from inside his own half before finishing to give France all three points.
The victory follows France’s 1–0 away win over Türkiye in Zidane’s first match in charge. France now sit at the top of Nations League Group A1 with six points, while Belgium and Italy have three each.
Italy also recorded their first win since Roberto Mancini returned as head coach, defeating Türkiye 4–1 in Bursa. Alessandro Bastoni, Davide Frattesi, Michael Kayode and Francesco Pio Esposito were on the scoresheet as Italy bounced back from their opening defeat to Belgium.
Elsewhere, Sweden defeated Poland 3–1, while Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Romania 4–2. Northern Ireland and Hungary played out a goalless draw.
France’s late victory keeps them firmly at the top of Group A1 and gives Zidane a winning start to his tenure after two matches.
